THE STORY:
Someone vandalized a number of Pride flags in multiple neighborhoods in Saint Paul at the end of June. In addition to flags being torn down and destroyed, bricks were thrown through the windows of a few businesses, and homes were sprayed painted.
There is no place for hate in our community, city, state, and country!
The vandal thought they could make Pride invisible by destroying it. Our response was to show solidarity and love for the LGBTQ+ community, making our existence far more visible. A Go Fund Me was set up to replace the flags destroyed; in addition to flags, I designed this sign for continued support and love.
We recognize that flags and signs are not the solution to gender and sexuality-driven violence in our neighborhood or in our country, but that increased visibility makes all LGBTQ+ folks safer.
And, the silver lining? The suspect was caught and charged!
